What Actually Happens When You Move Cross-Country from St. George

If you're moving out of St. George for a job, family, or a fresh start somewhere else in the country, a cross-country move works differently than a move across town. Here's how we handle it and what to ask any mover before you sign anything.

Start with a real walkthrough, not just a phone number. A quick phone estimate can give you a rough sense of your move, but the number that matters is a binding estimate. We walk your home in person or over a video call, go room by room, and give you a number you can actually hold a mover to. If a company skips the walkthrough and just quotes you a price over the phone, ask why.

Check the mover's authority before you check their reviews. Any company that crosses state lines with your household goods needs interstate operating authority from the FMCSA. We're licensed under USDOT 3508968 and MC-1470317, and both are searchable on FMCSA's site. It takes two minutes and tells you whether a company is legally allowed to do what they're quoting you for.

Ask who's actually driving your things. Some movers hand your load off to a broker or a different carrier once it leaves your driveway. Know going in whether the company you hired is the one driving your truck, and get that in writing.

Plan around the items that need special handling. Pianos, gun safes, and hot tubs don't move like a dresser. If you have one of these, say so up front, not the week of your move, so it's planned for and not a surprise on moving day.

Know your service area and don't assume. We move families out of St. George and the rest of Southern Utah: Washington, Hurricane, Santa Clara, Ivins, LaVerkin, Toquerville, Springdale, Cedar City, Enoch, Parowan, and Kanab, plus Mesquite, Nevada. If your move starts or ends somewhere we haven't listed, ask us directly rather than guessing.

A cross-country move is a bigger decision than a local one. Ask for the walkthrough, check the FMCSA numbers, and get your binding estimate in writing before moving day. If you're planning a move out of Southern Utah, we're happy to walk you through it.
